Lack of Funding for Women’s health

It seems like every month there are new businesses and products that support women’s health in new ways that have never been considered before. In the past, so many of women’s experiences weren’t studied or focused on within healthcare, wellness, and mental health spaces.

I find the world of women’s health and investing fascinating. It's a truly massive industry that often gets overlooked and the innovation coming out of the space is impressive and exciting.

🧐 Some really interesting stats on women’s health 🧐

  • Women make 80% of household health care decisions 🏃‍♀️

  • Women spend 29% more per-capita on health care than men 🏃‍♀️

  • Women live longer 🏃‍♀️

This article gives a great breakdown of the influence of women within healthcare, when making healthcare decisions, and the need for more funding for healthtech.

I know too many women (and men) who have gone to see a male doctor about a health issue - then were told something that isn’t true, doesn’t apply to them, or completely ignores their symptoms. I’m so excited for the future of healthcare and how we can shape it to be more inclusive.

There are some really impressive stats on the positive impact women on leadership teams can have - we know with more diversity in leadership roles, businesses have better performance with less corruption, higher ROI, higher valuations, and generate more revenue. But still, funding for women and FemTech lags behind.

Some of my fav healthtech founders: Laura Simmons, Dr Louise Metcalf, Danielle Owen Whitford (She/Her) Emily Casey, Anna Wright, Sarah Everitt, Lisa Nguyen, Alice Williams, Zoë Milgrom, Georgia V., Kate Lambridis - and there's so many more! 🚀
